The article discusses the research conducted on the polychromy of the medieval ivory carvings at the LVR-LandesMuseum in Bonn, Germany, including the sculpture referred to as the "Diptych with Crucifixion." An overview of the the methodology for analyzing the pigment of medieval ivory, including in regard to the use of spectroscopy to research binders and pigments on ivory, is provided.
