- Title
A Sea Bright Skiff Model.
- Authors
Thieler III, Edward R.
- Abstract
The article discusses the historic Sea Bright skiff, a fishing boat used in New Jersey beginning in the mid-nineteenth century, examining the author's process of building a model of it. It comments on the history of New Jersey beach fisheries and the use of wood from the New Jersey Pine Barren to build the ships, including Atlantic white cedar, or Chamaecyparis thyoides, also called Jersey cedar, white oak, or Quercus alba, and pitch pines, or Pinusrigida. The author also addresses miniature models of baskets, a cart, and a human figure that accompany his model ship.
