- Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the integrality attribute of Primary Health Care, focusing on children and adolescents living with HIV, on the experience of professionals, comparing units of the traditional and Family Health Strategies models. Method: A cross-sectional study with 527 professionals in 25 municipalities from the population under follow-up at a specialized service in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Interviews were conducted from March to August 2014, with Primary Care Assessment Tool-Brazil. Results: Only Family Health Strategies reached a high general score (7.42), even for available (7,18) and provided (7.67) services. Variables that contributed to the high score: general practitioner (p = 0.05), ≤ 15 years/training (p = 0.001) and post-graduation (p <0.001). Conclusion: primary care is able to comprehensive care to children and adolescents living with HIV. It is necessary to overcome the units of the traditional model, and to encourage the post-graduation of professionals and the maintenance of an employment relationship.
