- Title
J-schools' opinions sought on 'big-city' news councils.
- Abstract
This article presents information on the solicitation by the Mellett Fund for a Free and Responsible Press. This soliciting proposals is from journalism schools in or near a dozen major metropolitan areas for the formation of "big city" news councils. If a proposed council is accepted, it will be financed by the fund for three years and be ad ministered by journalism school faculty members. According to Mellett president Ben Bagdikian, the work of the individual metropolitan councils will be totally unrelated to the operation of the National News Council, a national media organization based in New York City.
