- Abstract
The article presents an interview with scholar and translator Carrol F. Coates. Coates has become an important promoter of Haitian and African literature, translating them into English. She has dealt with the works of such major figures as René Depestre, Stephen Alexis and Ahmadou Kourouma. Coates is a professor of French and comparative literature at Binghamton University, where he teaches courses in French phonetics and syntax and in francophone, Haitian, Caribbean and African literatures.
