- Abstract
A literary criticism of the novel "River of Smoke" by Amitav Ghosh is presented. The novel tells the story of a rich Parsi opium merchant who sets sail from Bombay, India, to Canton, China, in the 19th century. The novelist is recognized for capturing the critical moment in the history of global trade and globalization. In addition, the article discusses the complexities of multilingualism and the interaction of languages in the novel.
