- Abstract
The article discusses the politicization of Australia's public service, focusing on the actions of Mike Pezzullo, the former Home Affairs Secretary. Pezzullo's involvement in government machinations and party policy was revealed through texts sent to a Liberal Party lobbyist. The article also highlights Pezzullo's criticism of government officials and his controversial views on war. Following an independent inquiry, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese terminated Pezzullo's position due to his misuse of power, engagement in gossip, failure to keep information confidential, and failure to remain apolitical. The article argues that Pezzullo's termination reflects a larger culture of political appointments and a lack of transparency and accountability in the civil service.
