- Authors
MATISONS, MICHELLE RENEE
- Abstract
The article discusses the work of the Alliance for the Wild Rockies, an organization focused on environmental protection in the Wild Rockies bioregion. The Alliance aims to secure the ecological integrity of the region through citizen empowerment, conservation biology, sustainable economic models, and environmental law. They advocate for the Northern Rockies Environmental Protection Act (NREPA), which seeks to protect public land, designate Wild and Scenic Rivers, restore wilderness areas, and preserve fish and wildlife migratory routes. The article also highlights specific threats to the five ecosystems represented by NREPA and the Alliance's efforts to combat them. The organization relies on individual donations as its main funding source and prioritizes protecting habitat for native species over organizational growth.
