- Abstract
The article focuses on the African Institute of Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), an innovative and creative approach to enhance the competence in Cape Town, South Africa. The AIMS has been opened by the universities of Oxford, Cambridge, Paris-Sud XI, and the South African universities of Cape Town, Stellenbosch and the Western Cape. It offers a nine-month post-graduate course in applied mathematics to a selected group of students across the continent.
