The article reports that the polarizability of colloidal quantum dots has been directly measured by probing the electronic response without the use of electrical contacts. Difficulties in doing this include the fact that the optically generated exciton has a very short life. This was overcome by utilizing ultrafast terahertz time-domain spectroscopy.
