- Abstract
The article summarizes the results of an analysis made by the New York City (NYC) Department of Health and Mental Hygiene concerning the effects of switching from whole to low-fat and fat-free milk in NYC public schools from 2004-2009. During lunch, different types of milk have been available to all public school students. School system purchasing data given by the Department of Education (DOE) Office of School Food were used to estimate consumption. Total DOE per student school milk purchases decreased 8 percent from 2004 to 2006.
