- Authors
Harrington Jr., Joseph E.
- Abstract
Commentary is presented on the article, "Reducing Buyer Search Costs: Implications for Electronic Marketplaces," by J.Y. Bakos, published in a 1997 issue of the periodical "Management Science." The author offers his thoughts on the reviewed article's conclusion that if the cost of information about products is close to zero, near perfect competition exists. Also discussed is the assertion that when product information is free, the resulting reduced cost of learning a product's price results in higher prices. The author disagrees with both of these assertions.
