- Abstract
The article explores the relationship between noel, dance and composer Marc-Antoine Charpentier's "Messe minuit de Noël," and offers suggestions for phrasing several of the noel-based sections. In each of the noels that lend themselves to dancing, the arsic and thetic relationship of the dance steps correspond to the accented and unaccented syllables of the noel text. An analysis of the noel melodies that Charpentier borrowed for his "Messe minuit de Noël" is provided.
