- Title
Darkening the Subject of Hopkins' Prosody.
- Authors
Hurley, Michael D.
- Abstract
The article comments on the book "Author's Preface," by Gerard Manley Hopkins. This book describes the theory of his poetry. The author views that the book is not only confusing and insufficient for the reader who is not aware of Hopkins' other writings on poetry, but also is misleading. However this book provided a ready resource to the critic who wished to grapple with the theoretical basis for his poems. The book was introduced to facilitate an unfamiliar and non-specialist audience's appreciation of his poetry.
