- Abstract
The article discusses the obstacles that youth with disabilities face when transitioning from school to work. The author notes that there are strategies that teachers can adopt in order to help these students make this transition more successful. Statistics related to the employment of individuals with disabilities in the United States are presented in order to highlight the obstacles this segment of the population faces. The author also presents information on states that have higher than national averages in terms of the employment of individuals with disabilities in order to show that there are effective strategies for employing this segment. Indicators that can determine the success of an employment opportunity are also explored.
