- Abstract
Atopic dermatitis is a chronic, itchy inflammatory skin disease. The most numerous group of patients are children - depending on epidemiological data, up to 20% of the pediatric population. The disease is complex and multifactorial, and its pathogenesis consists of genetic and immunological disorders, a defect in the epidermal barrier and disturbance of the microbiological balance of the skin. The clinical picture of atopic dermatitis includes eczematous lesions of different localization, characteristic for a given developmental age. The disease may persist throughout the patient's life. It is characterized by a recurrent course with successive periods of exacerbation and remission. In everyday medical practice, the intensification of skin ailments can be observed in the autumn and winter period. In order to maintain long-term low disease activity during this time, special care should be taken with patients.
