- Authors
Kasperski, Robert
- Abstract
The article presents an examination of the process by which the 6th century Italian ruler Theoderic the Great and his son-in-law, a Visigoth, Eutharic came to hold positions of power and exert their rule of the Goths. It discusses the difficulties surrounding the study of Eutharic, including his various identifications as an Ostrogoth, a Visigoth and of being of Alanian orgin. It examines various 6th century sources that outline Eutharic's entry into the Visigoth kingdom, his relationship with the Amali people and explores how power was consolidated in 6th century.
