THE POLISH PEASANT IN THEORY AND PRACTICE.
- Authors
Łuczewski, Michał
- Abstract
The author considers how peasants in Poland at the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century developed their sense of national identity by using information found in the books "Chłopi, naród, niepodległość: Kształtowanie się postaw narodowych i obywatelskich chłopów w Galicji i Królestwie Polskim w przededniu odrodzenia Polski," [Peasants, Nation, Independence] by Jan Molenda and "Bauern und Nation in Galizien: Über Zugehörigkeit und soziale Emanzipation im 19. Jahrhundert" by Kai Struve. Notable polish people discussed include painter Artur Grottger, historian Wojciech Kętrzński, and historian Keely Stauter-Halsted.
