- Abstract
Summary: Two kinds of carbon and phosphorus synergistic system used to improve the flame retardancy of rigid polyurethane foams (RPUF) were studied. One is the synergistic effect of expandable graphite and guanidinium phosphate; the other is red phosphorus and guanidinium phosphate. The flame retardant properties and mechanical properties of these composites were investigated by limiting oxygen index, cone calorimeter test, as well as tension and compression test. These 2 groups of mixed inorganic flame retardants can greatly improve the flame retardancy of RPUF composites, as the limiting oxygen index increases from 20.1% to about 33% and the HRR reduces from 395 kW/m2 to below 200 kW/m2. It provides a convenient and inexpensive way to obtain RPUF with demanding properties.
