The article examines the different types of discourses on the official gazette, the historical work "A Sketch of Sites and Objects in the Imperial Capital," and historical miscellanies on the Tianqi explosion on May 30, 1626 in an attempt to investigate the textual strategies used to politicize the disaster over the course of the 17th century.
