Russia at forefront of Arctic land-grab.
- Authors

- Abstract
The article reports that the efforts of Russia to claim a vast chunk of Arctic seabed has posted great impact on marine scientists that are conducting research on the ocean floor. Russia hopes to claim 1.2 million square kilometers on seabed and the rights to copious mineral and fossil-fuel reserves. It has been noted that the Arctic Ocean contains as much as 25% of the world's oil reserves. If Russia will succeed in its claim, the country will no longer allow nations to control water above the seabed and will require researchers involved in geological and polar experiments to ask for permission.
