Immune regulation: Gut responses tamed by friendly bacteria.
- Authors
Bird, Lucy
- Abstract
The article reports on the study of Bacteroides fragilis, a common commensal bacterium in mammals, in the prevention of mice intestinal inflammation. The authors used experimental colitis in the cell transfer wherein the Helicobacter hepaticus settled and caused severe colitis in the immunocompromised animals. Moreover, polysaccharide A (PSA) protected mice from colitis and prevented disease-causing T helper 17 cells and tumour-necrosis factor production (TNF).
