- Abstract
The present study was done to record the prevalence of different hoof disorders and predisposing factors for occurrence of hoof affections in cattle in Ayodhya district of Uttar Pradesh, India. After screening 1086 cattle reared on 28 dairy farms of different villages of all the parts of entire district. Out of that, 230 were affected with various hoof disorders. The overall prevalence rate was estimated as 21.18%. Among various hoof disorders recorded prevalence of overgrown hooves was found highest(7.83%) followed by cork screw horn (2.94%), foot rot (1.84%), foot rot with interdigital abscess (1.10%), white line fissure and double sole (1.10%), scissor claw (1.10%), sole haemorrhage (0.83%), hoof injury (0.83%), sole ulcer (0.73%), interdigital hyperplasia (0.64%), horizontal sand crack (0.64%), vertical sand crack (0.55%), interdigital foreign body (0.55%), punctured sole (0.28%) and heel horn erosion (0.18%). Hoof disorders was noticed highest in cross bred cows (15.47%), followed by indigenous zebu cattle (4.88%) and nondescript cattle (0.83%). The breed wise distribution of hoof disorders in affected cattle revealed the highest rate of occurrence in HF cross bred (22.65), followed by Jersey cross bred (20.55), Sahiwal (20.00), Gir (18.88) and nondescript cows (17.64).
