- Abstract
The article presents a comparative assessment of organochlorine (OCs) concentrations in porpoise melon and blubber. The purpose of the study is to determine the OC contaminants, including dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) congeners, accumulate in the melon tissues of odontocete cetaceans and to examine whether the accumulation occurs in a manner similar to that which has been observed in blubber. Melon and blubber samples used in this study were taken from the Northeast Fisheries Science Center of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Marine Fisheries Service. An overview of the results of the study is offered.
