- Authors
Nielsen, Cynthia R.
- Abstract
The article studies the relationship of author Franz Fanon to the Négritude movement and explores how strategic essentialism subverts binary Manichean frameworks. It focuses on Fanon's resistance tactics and retells his and others' experiences of racism and social construction. It analyzes the resilience of the human spirit and the affirmation of freedom in the novel "Black Skin, White Masks." The historico-racial and racial-epidermal schemata developed by Fanon is explored.
