An essay is presented on the teachings of religious-Zionist rabbis Ben-Zion Meir Hai Uziel and Hayyim David Halevi, focusing on the conflict between religion and state in Israel. It examines political differences within Israel's Jewish communities and tensions surrounding secularism. The author comments on the rabbis' views on relations between Jews and Arabs, Jewish national identity, and Israeli democracy. The ideas of medieval Jewish philosopher Moses Maimonides are also considered.
