- Abstract
We aimed to account for street homelessness from a spatial perspective, having recourse to the street as a privileged scenario for urban life. From the category of place, the identification and typification of practices of recognition and contempt that describe street homelessness in the center-comune one of the city of Ibagué was achieved. For this purpose, a social cartography was elaborated with the participation of inhabitants of and on the street based on a qualitative and descriptive design of three phases: 1) identification of places 2) characterization of places and practices 3) description of places and routines. It was found that life on the street is developed from various practices of recognition and contempt that are centralized in places such as the Andrés López de Galarza park, the municipal mayor's office and the transit homes. This generates processes of strategic, social and cultural rootedness related to the construction of identities based on cohesion and differentiation based on social belonging, the emergence of routines linked to institutions and the possibilities of access to goods and services, interactions and care with the majority society and among themselves.
