- Abstract
Vitamin K Epoxide Reductase Complex, Subunit 1 (VKORC1) Gene -1639 polymorphism was significantly associated with warfarin maintenance dose. Frequency of VKORC1-1639 variant alleles/genotypes differed among ethnicities and populations. Genetic frequencies varied in different geographical areas. This study aimed to identify allele / genotype frequencies of VKORC1 gene -1639 in Surakarta and in Southeast Asia. The genotypes in Surakarta were identified by polymerase chain reaction confronting two-pair primers. Systematic review study was conducted to identify allele/genotype frequencies in Southeast Asia. A heterozygous GA was identified as the highest percentage genotype (53 patients (50% of 106 cardiovascular patients)) in Surakarta Indonesia. Other identified genotypes in Surakarta were AA (48 subjects (45%)) and GG (5 subjects (5%)). Meanwhile, the highest percentage genotype in Bandung and Jakarta, Indonesia, was AA. A homozygous AA was also the most common genotype in Malaysia, Bangkok, Vietnam, and Singapore. The genotype frequency distribution in Surakarta, Indonesia, was different from studies conducted in Southeast Asia.
