- Title
THE NATIONALIZATION OF BASIC INDUSTRIES IN GREAT BRITAIN.
- Authors
SCHMITTHOFF, CLIVE M.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the issue of nationalization of basic industries in Great Britain. The first nationalization acts were placed in 1946 on the statute book. Since then there has been a steady growth of the law of nationalized industries, an administrative practice has been established in the public corporations and their relations to the ministries, private industry, and the public have been clarified. The nationalized industries in Britain fall within proprietary control. The nationalization was normally carried out by the direct method of vesting. Another feature of the British nationalization is its insistence on the principle that compensation must be paid for assets transferred from private to national ownership.
