HAUSER, P. M.; JAFFE, A. J.
- Abstract
The article focuses on shortage of housing in the U.S. It states that the problem of housing shortage has several economic and social aspects, including material shortages, changes in income, and lack of information on actual housing needs. It analyses the problem of housing supply in relation to the population needs by considering various factors including demography, demand and supply of dwelling units, and social needs of housing. Several charts are presented, including one depicting estimates of housing shortage, one depicting birth rate in the U.S. during 1938-1945, and one depicting changes in the U.S. population and families during 1890-1945.
