- Abstract
In the chapter xvi of the First Part of Don Quixote, I, chap. 16, innkeeper Palomeque's daughter, a young maiden, says that she uses to dream that she falls from a tower below, without reaching the ground, waking up in pain as if she had really fallen. The dream of falling into the void is usually interpreted as a dream of insecurity or anxiety. The engraving with which this passage is reflected in the XIX century gives rise to relate not only the text, but also the images of that dream with other accidental, provoked or suicidal falls in classical literature. And to propose for the dreaming girl an evolution that goes through her identification with the heroines of chivalric books.
