- Abstract
The article analyzes scientific practices in the early Iberian world in light of what historian and philosopher Edgar Zilsel argues about the social roots of modern science and its artisanal origins. It follows some scholars who used Zilsel's idea to explain the origin of modern science. It also examines events in Iberia including the expansionist movement initiated by Spain and Portugal in the 15th century.
