- Title
Family Law in the Fifty States 2005-2006: Case Digests.
- Abstract
The article presents a summary of family law cases from different states of the U.S. and covers the period of August 1, 2005 through July 31, 2006. The Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) in Alaska gave requirements regarding the decision for the adoption of three Indian children by a Caucasian foster mother. The court in Indiana made a decision about a same-sex couple who filed a petition to adopt a child that has been in their custody since the baby was two days old. The appellate division court in New York declared the invalidity of the exception of an Indian family from the adoption proceeding, because it conflicts with the ICWA.
