- Abstract
This article aims to present, in general terms, the phenomenon of employee turnover in Mexicali, Baja California, which is a Mexican city located on the US–Mexico border. This phenomenon has impacted the economy of many firms, and the entrepreneurs expressed their concern though different fora and media. For this purpose, important regional actors participated in focus groups sessions. During these sessions, they explained the impact of this phenomenon on their firms and how they have been dealing with it. As a result of the interaction during the focus group sessions, a model to attract and retain employees was developed. The model identifies 12 relevant variables that impact the employees’ performance. This study aims to lead to more detailed researches; based on these variables, employers and academicians would apply it in a different context, obtaining comparable results.
