- Abstract
The article discusses a study about the associations between birth weight and body mass index (BMI), and total body composition in overweight Latino adolescents in the U.S. It notes that obtaining data concerning such associations will be beneficial in promoting health and preventing disease. The study involved 24 such children who were examined for risk factors for developing type 2 diabetes at an early age. Results of the study show that birth weight is related to increased adiposity at 11 years old.
