- Abstract
The article discusses a study on the relationship of visceral adiposity to cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors in African American and white teenagers. It mentions that one possible reason for the harmful effect of central adiposity is that the metabolic characteristics of fat stored in the intra-abdominal compartment are likely to lead to increased risk for CVD. A table is also presented that shows the statistics and significant differences for the varied race-sex groups.
