- Abstract
This review article seeks to define the concepts of digital interaction, online multiplayer video games, and relate how these two elements can lead to the creation of virtual communities. It starts with the premise of social interaction, from face-to-face relationships that people have, but when developed in different digital environments, such as video games, they acquire new elements that can be used in these interactions, such as videos, images, voice messages, among others; turning these social interactions into digital interactions. On the other hand, online multiplayer video games are understood as a digital environment not only sought for entertainment and recreation but also as a digital environment where people can learn, communicate, and interact with others through different tools such as text and voice chat, in-game signals, gestures, emoticons, among others. Thus, the relationship between social interaction and online multiplayer video games promotes the generation of virtual communities.
