- Abstract
The mass spectrum of baryons is calculated on the basis of a Higgs-type potential assigned to quarks. This requires the solution of the nonrelativistic wave equation of a three-body configuration of constituent quarks. The results of the calculation show a good match with physical evidence. Once more, it is shown that a Bohr-type view on quantum physics proves that all nuclear particles are excitations of a single archetype quark. Within this view there is neither a need to introduce unphysical attributes, such as isospin or quark flavors, nor a need to hypothesize a noninteger split of the elementary electric charge. Moreover, it demonstrates that the origin of all mass is an energetic flux flowing from elementary pointlike sources (quarks) that is (Debije) shielded by a energetic background field (nuclear space charge)
