- Abstract
An essay is presented on author Herman Melville's little historical method. It explores Melville's record of publication that indicates a man who could handle what was formidable in poetry no less than prose. Particular focus is given on Milvelle's 1855 book "Israel Potter: His 50 Years of Exile." It also argues that the short serial form of Melville's book was something other than a product of editorial circumstance.
