EL ULISES DANTESCO EN MOBY DICK: LA HUELLA LITERARIA DE UN NAUFRAGIO.
- Authors
Martín López, Carolina
- Abstract
Following Derrick's deconstructive thought, according to which the trace is the key to the analysis of any literary text, that is to say, the interpretation of a text tracing the existence of previous texts, this essay focuses on the particular scene of the shipwreck in Moby Dick, and examines it alongside Ulysses' story in La Divina Commedia to establish literary and ideological links between the two texts. The trace of Ulysses' story in Dante's work is clearly perceived in Moby Dick, in general, and in the shipwreck of Captain Ahab, in particular. As in La Divina Commedia, the shipwreck may be interpreted as God's punishment against human arrogance, against going beyond human transgression. Finally, it seems clear that a didacticism and a moralizing tone exists in both works, so far apart in time and space.
