- Abstract
This article discusses the impact of an unprepared diagnosis of a parastomal bulge on patients who have undergone colorectal surgery. The study highlights the lack of awareness among healthcare professionals about the likelihood of this complication and emphasizes the importance of effective communication and consent processes. Patient perceptions, including feelings of disappointment, anger, betrayal, and mistrust, are explored, emphasizing the need for improved interdisciplinary collaboration between colorectal surgeons and stoma care nurses. The article suggests that joint clinics can facilitate shared decision-making for complex management options such as surgical repair.
