- Abstract
The article accounts on the capture of a fully matured anguillid eels in the open ocean using large mid-water trawl net. It mentions that three anguillid eels were caught in the Suruga Seamount in the West Mariana Ridge. Through molecular genetic identification using mitochondrial 16S recombinant DNA sequence analysis, the eels were identified as giant mottled eel and Japanese eel. The author notes that the area where the fully matured male eels were captured was close to where the eel's spawning occurs.
