- Abstract
The article presents information related to high-risk sex and gonorrhea in San Francisco, California. In a study, sixty eight 15-19 year olds who were infected with gonorrhea, were compared with 136 neighborhood controls. Among the young women, it was found that the number of infected teenagers was 15 times more than those uninfected to have had a previous sexually transmitted disease. Nearly thirty two percent of the cases had exchanged sex for money or drugs. Finally, it was concluded by the researchers that the exchange of sex for money or drugs is a significant risk factor for gonorrhea among black adolescent women in San Francisco.
