- Abstract
This document is a letter published in the Journal of Gastroenterology. It discusses a study conducted in Japan that examined the clinical and genomic characteristics of patients with a specific subtype of pancreatic cancer called acinar cell carcinoma (ACC). The study found that ACC patients had a higher rate of certain genes related to homologous recombination compared to patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). ACC patients also showed a trend towards a higher response rate to a specific chemotherapy regimen and had a longer time to treatment failure. The letter also presents a case study of a patient with ACC who had a positive response to treatment. The authors agree with the study's findings and suggest that further research is needed to understand why some patients without the specific genes also had better outcomes. The letter concludes by stating that this study represents the first success of the Japanese National C-CAT database in the field of gastroenterology.
