- Abstract
This article discusses the role of expert systems in supporting strategic decision-making processes. It highlights the development of novel technologies, such as machine learning and pervasive social gaming, that are changing data management processes and improving decision-making in various contexts. The article also presents six research articles that delve into different aspects of expert systems and their contributions to operational decision-making. These articles cover topics such as predicting performance metrics in machine learning, determining patent revenue odds, building pervasive social gaming experiences, forecasting based on network time series, evaluating regional innovation capabilities, and analyzing cold supply chain risk. The authors of the article express their gratitude to the reviewers and contributors of the special issue, as well as acknowledge the support of the journal and the program committee of the WorldCIST'21 conference.
