- Abstract
This document is an in memoriam for Michael (Mike) William Bruford, a renowned conservation geneticist who dedicated over 30 years to understanding and halting biodiversity loss. Born in Cardiff, Wales, in 1963, Mike made significant contributions to the field of conservation genetics, using cutting-edge genetic fingerprinting techniques to address problems in molecular ecology, evolutionary biology, and conservation biology. He worked on a wide range of species and led or contributed to projects all over the world. Mike published over 300 research papers and book chapters, received numerous awards and honors, and was a founding member of several conservation organizations. He passed away at the age of 59 in April 2023, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the field of conservation genetics.
