- Abstract
The ancient art of paper folding, origami, has grown beyond its basic form into a muitidisciplinary topic with significant implications for materials and structural engineering. Origami is a multipurpose and influential tool in engineering and technology, and this research adds to the expanding body of knowledge by connecting theoretical understanding with practical applications. The proposed work is focused on mathematical foundations for origami geometry, state-of-the-art approaches that uses origami in material and structural engineering, origami design tools. applications of origami, and issues & challenges in the design. The comprehensive study begins by illuminating the mathematical basis of origami geometry. revealing the fundamental laws guiding folding patterns and their geometric effects. The research delves into the process of developing new materials with optimised mechanical, thermal, and optical properties by utilising designs inspired by origami. The work delves into the adaptability and recontigurability of origami structures. exploring their dynamic nature. This research explores the various tools that are essential for modern origami design. The study opens up new possibilities for innovation in the fields of biomedical devices. robotic actuators, and deployable structures by demonstrating how origami-inspired designs might improve their usefulness and efficiency.
