- Abstract
The lima bean is one of the main legumes cultivated in tropical region and it can provide vegetable protein to the population, decreasing the almost exclusive dependence of carioca beans group. During the productive process of the lima bean, it is attacked by several fitofages, either in the field or in storage. The weevil Zabrotes subfasciatus (Boheman) is one of the pest of the culture causing significant losses during the grain storage period. So, in this context, this work aimed to evaluate antibiosis and antixenosis of eight lima beans (Phaseolus lunatus L.) accessions to weevil Z. subfasciatus Boh. attack under controlled conditions of temperature and luminosity. The research was conducted in the Laboratory of Plant Protection of the Center of Agrarian Science of the Federal University of Piauí. The accessions used (UFPI 230, UFPI 468, UFPI 582, UFPI 494,UFPI 515, UFPI 495 and UFPI 220) were obtained from the UFPI's Germplasm Bank of Lima Beans. The work consisted of two experiments: a non-choice test and another with free choice. In the first test there were statistical differences in the number of viable eggs and grain consumption. Significant differences were also observed in number of insects attracted, attractiveness index, and ovipositon preference index in the test with free choice. According to the results, we conclude that accession UFPI 230 can be used as a susceptibility standard for containment tests, the accessions UFPI 515 and UFPI 220 were more attractive and preferred over the others; UFPI 582 was considered resistant on the other in confinement and the accessions UFPI 498 and UFPI 495 are the least favorite than the usual.
