- Abstract
The article discusses a case on self-injurious behavior (SIB), a disorder or a deliberate act of hurting oneself without any intention. Among the enumerated SIB are head banging, self-biting of hands, arms, lips, and tongue and hitting ones head with the use of ones fist or palm. SIB is common among mentally retarded individuals, psychoses and individuals with character disorders. An attempt to treat lip biting were instituted through the inventions of shields for both the lip and tongue.
