- Abstract
The article discusses the general criteria for evaluating compulsory screening of persons with antibodies to HIV developed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. These criteria are applied to premarital screening, screening in drug treatment and sexually transmitted disease clinics, and general screening in prisons. The agency's main goal in establishing the criteria is to support professional testing, education and counseling services. Finally, legal and ethical conflict of public health official for the systematic collection of test results in protecting third parties against predictable transmission of HIV is also described.
